Janelle Tee – Miss Earth 2019

Reigning Miss Earth 2019 Janelle Tee and Liter of Light founder Iliac Diaz introduced the Light it Forward Challenge to viewers.

The video, posted on July 7, 2020, raises awareness for over 20 million Filipinos who are still living in the dark. The challenge is part of Liter of Light’s advocacy to provide solar lighting for affected communities in the Philippines.

Diaz tells viewers that Janelle Tee is putting the switches on (using the kit). The solar lighting champion jokingly explains that while the wires twisted together may look like spaghetti, the connected switches actually possess a kind of logic to guide future challengers.

The solar lighting kit comes conveniently coded with numbers for easy assembly.

Diaz guides the reigning beauty queen to help viewers see the solar light assembly process up close.

The beauty queen uses her platform to promote eco-tourism and environment-friendly practices. In the video, she proudly wore a matching handwoven Yakan mask and top from a local brand that transforms indigenous fabrics into everyday wear.

Tee encourages viewers to join her in the eco-friendly initiative, which brings solar lights to impoverished communities in the country. The Light it Forward solar lights are made entirely out of recycled materials.

The beauty queen also adds that the solar lighting feat only took her less than 30 minutes.

Her social media post reads: I installed a solar light for communities without access to electricity! I am challenging you to #lightitforward

She also addressed the Light it Forward challenge to her fellow beauty queens.

“I’m so happy I put together a solar light on my own, I did this by hand, and I now challenge my Ms. Philippines Earth sisters to Light it Forward.”

The actress begins her video by telling viewers that the foundation reached out to her with the Light it Forward challenge. Adarna gladly accepted when she learned more about the advocacy’s cause.

“This light bottle can actually brighten a lot of lives, especially the ones who don’t have access to electricity,” she explained.

Adarna was excited about the project. She adds that it would be her first time to complete such a task.

The Cebuana actress went through the tools in the solar light building kit, presenting some of the key elements for the lamp to viewers. She read out a couple of reminders from the kit and followed the step by step instructions.

Adarna finally completes the assembly and presents the finished product to viewers. The actress encourages people to join her in the advocacy, adding that the project was also a lot of fun to complete.

She joyously declared that if she could take on the solar lighting challenge, so could you.

“Guys, I did it! Now I can Light it Forward.”

Adarna’s Light it Forward video, posted on July 10, concludes with the actress issuing the challenge to celebrity friends Vito Selma and Beauty Gonzales.
