Popular Filipino actor Dingdong Dantes joined the Liter of Light in unveiling the largest solar Philippine flag tribute for medical frontliners at the “Bonifacio Bayaning Frontliner: A Giant Artwork Solar-lighting Event” held at the Rizal Park in Manila.
Dantes represented the entertainment industry in honoring the fallen frontliners in the battle against coronavirus disease through the lighting of 3,000 solar lamps bearing the colors and assembled as a solar Philippine flag on Bonifacio Day, November 30, 2020.
The solar lamps were assembled by Filipino actors and filmmakers who participated in the award-winning Light it Forward Campaign to hand-build solar lights for donation to communities that still do not have access to electricity.
The Light it Forward solar lamps were assembled at the Rizal Park to honor Filipino health workers in the Philippines and around the world, as well as Philippine revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio whom Liter of Light founder Illac Diaz referred to as one of the early frontliners.
The tribute message using the Light it Forward solar lamps of the Liter of Light event on Bonifacio Day is a continuation of the Good Light Message of Hope campaign during the Luzon-wide lockdown in early 2020 conducted by the Liter of Light and GoodNewsPilipinas.com.
During the lighting ceremony, Dantes said that the Philippine flag made from solar lamps symbolizes the courage and bravery of the country’s health workers.
“Sa ating mga frontliners, sa ating tinatawag na modern-day heroes, hindi na namin alam kung papano magpasalamat sa inyo kaya we are honoring you in this very, very important day, this day onwards,” the Descendants of the Sun PH lead actor said.
“Ang bandilang ito sumasagisag sa tapang ng Pilipino, sa tapang n’yo. Ito ay para sa inyo. You will forever be remembered. Maraming salamat sa inyo serbisyo. Maraming salamat,” he continued.
The GMA Network prized star also thanked the initiative of Liter of Light for mounting a symbolic event to pay tribute to all the medical workforce through the collective efforts from various individuals and organizations.
“Sa Liter of Light Movement, maraming salamat sa event na ito kasi napakagaling at nakapaganda ng idea,” the 2020 Asian Star Prize awardee said. “Nai-immortalize ang ating pag-honor sa ating frontliners through this giant flag. Pero hindi lang naman itong bandilang ito ang naging bida sa araw na ito maging ‘yong bawat partisipasyon ng lahat ng taong bumuo ng solar lights na ito.
“In honor of our frontliners,” the actor-TV host went on, “ang ating tinatawag na modern-day heroes, lalong lalo na ‘yong mga pumanaw sadly dahil sa kanilang mga trabaho. Ang lahat ng ito’y para sa inyo para maalala po namin kayo at magsilbing inspirasyon sa aming buhay bilang mamamayan.
“We won’t take for granted all the work that you have contributed. Maraming salamat po,” he concluded.
